Introduction
A really fun scrambling walk around the Kinder Reservoir, up the clearly defined Red Brook. Considered a Grade 1**, getting steeper towards the end. Boggy aproach in places! Time 4 hrs approx.
You can park either in Little Hayfield or Hayfield itself, and make your way to the Kinder Reservoir.
From Hayfield, park at the Bowden Bridge car park, walk up Kinder Road, and then follow the resulting path to Kinder Reservoir.
From Little Hayfield, park in one of the spaces as you get into Little Hayfield, then take the road next to the National Trust post, and follow it until the “Residents Only” sign, where you will turn right to a small gate. After the gate you’re on Middle Moor, take the path turning right, reaching the corner of the field and follow it left.
(LH only) Follow that line until you reach a building on top of the plateau. From here take the right bridle path at the cross roads, following it down until you reach the path along Kinder Reservoir.
From here, follow the left hand path along the edge of the reservoir, crossing the first joining stream ( up William Clough), and sticking with the page on the reservoir edge, until you reach the second joining river (River Kinder).
From here you must make your way along the River Kinder, which depending on the time of year, can be extremely boggy, and require multiple crossing on questionable stepping stones!
Just before the River Kinder turns sharp left, you will notice a joining brook (Red Brook) which runs all the way to the top of Kinder scout.
Here is where the scrambling starts, making your way up and around the boulders in Red Brook all the way to the top.
Turn left at the top, and make your way to Kinder Downfall, if you want to scramble up it then you can descend a path just before you get to it and climb back up the Downfall.
From there follow the Pennine Way route down William Clough and back to either Hayfield of Little Hayfield.
