A fantastic scrambling exploration on Dove’s Nest Crag, the Attic Cave will be one to remember.
Parking: Small Car Park in Stonethwaite Village (maps link)
Grade: 2**
A mass of rock which at some point since the last ice age broke apart into several large sections, affording a scrambler a rare opportunity to explore the inner sanctum of a classic Lakeland Buttress.
The easiest (and most spectacular) route questing into the bowels of the buttress is Attic Cave which makes for a brilliant Grade 2.
From a large ledge, scramble through some large chimneys before making an awkward pull past a chockstone.
Follow the chimney left into a large bay before following polished holds up and right past another chockstone into the cave. To escape its back the way you came!
